Ecami anuncia energía solar para bombeo y refrigeración

Unas mil 800 familias productoras de Estelí y Matagalpa serán beneficiadas con el financiamiento que facilitó el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, BID, a la empresa Ecami, cuyo Gerente General, Luis Lacayo Lacayo, ayer reveló que estos núcleos recibirán equipos de refrigeración y bombeo que funcionan a base de energía solar, además de una cocina especial que reduce a un tercio el consumo de leña. “Ya estamos trabajando en la zona con el proyecto y tenemos al personal en etapa de capacitación para iniciar el trabajo de campo”, indicó Lacayo, quien calificó la iniciativa como un “alivio” para aquellos productores que carecen del servicio de energía eléctrica en zonas recónditas del país. Max Lacayo(1985)

Born in Nicaragua. He trained as a lawyer and specialized in company law at the moment he is completing a masters degree in renewable energy. In 2005 he took over the daily management of the family owned company ECAMI, which his father founded in 1982, shortly after the nicaraguan revolution. Today ECAMI sells and install wind and solar plants in the Central American Conutry. A susbtancial number of the customers are located in remote areas of the country, wich are not yet in the grid. In 2009 ECAMI was awarded with the prestigious Ashden Award for its support of the development in the Nicaraguan rural areas. VER MAS

Founded in 2001 to encourage the greater use of local sustainable energy to address climate change and alleviate poverty, the Ashden Awards have rewarded more than one hundred winners across the UK and the developing world. Kyocera’s customer, Empresa de Comunicaciones, SA (ECAMI) in Managua, Nicaragua, won a 2009 Ashden Award of £20,000 for its pioneering sustainable energy project that has installed more than 400 kWp of high quality photovoltaic systems. Home Power

Hurricane Mitch hit hard in the town of Agua Zarca in rural Nicaragua. It destroyed the crops which most people depend on for food and income. But in a country that continuously moves from crisis to crisis, Hurricane Mitch was not able to break the spirit that enables the people to endure hardship.

Following the hurricane, Agency for Environmental Health (AEH) installed a solar electric system in a health clinic in Agua Zarca. This clinic is the primary health center for not only the 150 families that live in the town, but also for twelve nearby communities.
